GCBS recap (2): Analyst Intro | The State of the Market Report: Carrier Billing
In September, the Global Carrier Billing Summit took place online and in London.
In his opening talk to the GCBS virtual event, Guillermo Escofet from market research firm Omdia shared some interesting insights into the state of DCB from different perspectives like regulatory pressures, bundling and physical goods.
You find our key takeaways from his session below. Did you attend the #GCBSummit? Are we missing something in this summary?
The main takeaways from this session are:
+ regulatory pressures arise in different markets, posing risks as well as potential opportunities if Google and Apple are forced to allow third-party billing in app stores
+ not surprisingly, DCB has its single largest share in app store billing compared to other “ways” of paying with DCB
+ alternative payment methods like digital wallets arise across markets, especially as major PSP players integrate several methods for their customers; even though, it is too early for conclusions, this could be a way of cannibalization for DCB
+ bundling in different variations and physical goods could be growth opportunities for DCB for merchants and carriers alike; several pilot applications or live services in these areas arise in different markets
Do you see other opportunities for carriers next to bundling and physical goods? What kind of services could be “low-hanging fruits” for DCB?
